Today (28 June) is a day of protest to demand the reinstatement of Dawn Holdman, a UCU rep at the University of Liverpool who is believed to have been dismissed for her trade union activity. Marxist students are in solidarity with Dawn. It’s a disgrace that anyone should lose their job just for standing up for the rights of their fellow workers. We want to see her reinstated and the position of the UCU and the staff it represents at the University of Liverpool strengthened.
Ultimately we want to see universities run democratically by staff and students, so that universities can be run for the good of society rather than as businesses by unelected management. In our opinion that’s the best way to secure the rights of staff and the quality of education.
