We publish here a translation of a statement (the original is republished below) by our comrades in Brazil – Liberdade e Luta – following the impeachment of the Brazilian president and her replacement by Michel Temer.
STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY
The impeachment has happened. Temer is taking over the presidency to continue to apply the cuts that the national bourgeoisie needs to remain in power.
But the workers and young people do not feel defeated. On the contrary, there is a strong resistance expressed in mobilizations against the Temer government that have gripped the country.
Afraid that the mobilizations will develop towards a questioning of all the institutions of capitalism, the state is sending all its military apparatus to suppress the demonstrations of workers and young people. In Sao Paulo the military police left dozens injured.
One of the victims of police brutality is Deborah Fabri, student of Federal University of ABC and a comrade of the Levante Popular da Juventude, who lost vision in her left eye after being hit by shrapnel from a bomb.
Liberdade e Luta expresses solidarity with comrade Deborah and with all those who are suffering from the repression against demonstrations by the same cops who assault workers in struggle and kill impoverished young people on the outskirts of the city every day.
We condemn the intervention of the military police and the government of Michel Temer.

NOTA DE SOLIDARIEDADE
O impeachment se concretizou. Temer assume a presidência para continuar a aplicar os cortes que a burguesia nacional necessita para se manter no poder.
Mas os trabalhadores e os jovens não se sentem derrotados. Pelo contrário, existe uma forte resistência expressa nas mobilizações que tomaram o país contra o governo Temer.
Impelida pelo medo de que as mobilizações se desenvolvam em direção a um questionamento de todas as instituições do capitalismo, o Estado envia todo seu aparato militar para reprimir as manifestações dos trabalhadores e jovens. Em SP, a Polícia Militar de Alckmin deixou uma dezena de feridos no ato #ForaTemer.
Uma das vitimas da truculência policial é Deborah Fabri, estudante da Universidade Federal do ABC e militante do Levante Popular da Juventude, que perdeu a visão do olho esquerdo ao ser atingido por um estilhaço de bomba.
A Liberdade e Luta se solidariza com a companheira Deborah e com todos aqueles que sofrem com a repressão aos atos e manifestações pela mesma polícia que agride os trabalhadores em luta e que mata a juventude pobre nas periferias da cidade todos os dias.
Repudiamos a intervenção da Polícia Militar e o governo de Michel Temer.
